A very happy New Year to you all! 2014 has been great, but tiring…which I am sure you can gather from the absence throughout the latter part of the year! But I’ve just had a month off at my parents’ house and feel like I’ve been injected with energy and ready for twenty fifteen!
Despite the grave online absence, I have been busy with birthday cakes, parties and even a couple of wedding cakes. I was stretched for time with most things so no time for good photos 😦 but I would love to share a few things I learnt along the way and the places I went for guidance. So bear with me as I share some of my experiences over the next few weeks and the amazing things I discovered along the way!
I do like to bake cakes for other people, it is one of the great pleasures in my life. One of the loveliest people I have ever worked with had a her birthday a couple of months ago. I made this chocolate fudge cake for her and covered it in chocolate ganache using the upside down method. I watched this tutorial from Three Little Blackbirds which I can say, hand on heart, has been one of the most informative cake-related free tutorials I have come across.
I made the bunting cake topper with some left over string garland pearl beads I had in the craft closet and taking a scrapbook page cut out a few diamond shapes and folded them over the beads to create the triangle flags (using double sided tape to secure). Using a glue gun I attached the garland to two bamboo skewers. Took less than 5 minutes and cost less than $2 🙂
