photo_1My name is Esté and I’m a 30-something lover of all things food. I’m married and have two dog-children, a yorkie and a golden lab. I was born in South Africa, then immigrated to New Zealand with my family when I was 18. After living in Auckland for 12 years I recently moved to Australia with my husband. My ‘day job’ is in recruitment, but my real passion is spending time in my kitchen. The Food Dream is to one day own my own little coffee shop and dessert bar, and starting this blog has brought me one step closer to thinking that it might not be such an impossible dream after all.

This blog is all about my adventures with (mostly) sweet things and showing my friends and my family how easy and extraordinarily rewarding baking can really be. And it will be a combination of a few things, chronicling the things I get up to in the kitchen, sharing some family recipes and sharing the clever ideas I come across that make my life easier and happier. I will also dedicate one section to ‘Desserts for Two’ that will be exactly that, recipes that are adapted to only fill two bowls at the end of the night.

Perhaps a little background on where my passion comes from. Both my mother and grandmother love (and very sadly, loved) being in the kitchen and making food for the mere pleasure it brings people. I will have lasting memories of my grandmother, with her back hunched over because of her arthritis, shuffling around slowly and purposefully in the kitchen always baking for everybody in her old age home just to bring a little bit of happiness to their lives. She really got what it meant to serve others with food, and just how much such a small act can mean. And that is what I love, that food brings people together, it brings so much happiness and creates so many memories. So as my inspiration and aspiration, I hope to follow in their footsteps…

  3. This is such a beautiful blog and I love your baklava post! I also know exactly what you mean about food & love & memories. I feel the same way. Actually, I’m trying to gather stories of food memories on my blog, if you’re interested in reading some really touching memories people have shared with me about food and their fathers. Either way, I’m so happy to have come across your blog and look forward to following your posts more! Good job!

  4. Hi, I saw your blog link from another blog I was reading, and thought I would take a look at your recipes. They look delicious! I love to make desserts also, and have some of the same goals that you have as far as wanting someday to own a bakery and make people happy by cooking for them and sharing recipes.
